Tutorial: your first production
Take one real production from an empty project to a shared call sheet, in six short steps.
This tutorial walks you through running your first production in CrewGrid, end to end. You'll create a project, lay out the shoot on the timeline, save a version of the plan, book a crew member, build a budget that tracks what your bookings cost, and finish by publishing a call sheet and sharing it.
Each step builds on the one before, but every page also stands on its own — you can jump in anywhere.
What you'll use
You'll work with your own production, not sample data — CrewGrid deliberately has no demo content, so everything you set up here is real and ready to keep using. If you don't have a shoot coming up, a small imaginary one (one shoot day, two or three crew) works fine; you can archive the project afterwards.
Expect around 15 minutes of setup for a minimal run-through. A real production naturally takes longer, but the steps are the same.
Before you start
You need an organization account — the producer side of CrewGrid. If you haven't set one up yet, see Creating an account first.
The six steps
1. Create a project
Start the production: title, client, currency, and which tools it uses.
2. Build the timeline
Lay out the shoot as streams and items — your working draft of the plan.
3. Save a snapshot
Freeze a named version of the plan to build bookings and call sheets from.
4. Book your crew
Send a booking request — contact, schedule source, rate card, send.
5. Build the budget
Add chapters and line items, link a booking, and watch Allocated update.
6. Publish a call sheet
Create the sheet from your timeline, publish it, and share it by link.
