Tutorial: your first production

Step 1: Create a project

Start your production — set the title, client, currency, and which tools the project uses.

Everything in CrewGrid happens inside a project — a single production with its own budget, timeline, crew, and call sheets. In this step you'll create one for your production.

You need an organization account to follow along — see Creating an account if you don't have one yet.

Open the new-project form

From Projects in your organization sidebar, start a New project.

Fill in the basics

  • Project title — the production's name.
  • Client — who it's for.
  • Domestic currency — the main currency for the budget.

Shoot dates aren't set here — you add them afterwards, in the project's settings.

Choose the project's tools

The Modules picker decides which production tools this project uses. All of them start ticked:

  • Budget
  • Timeline
  • Staffing
  • Call Sheets
  • Locations

For this tutorial, keep at least Budget, Timeline, Staffing, and Call Sheets ticked — the next five steps use all four. Untick anything you know you won't need; you can add tools back later, so it's fine to start lean. Overview, Documents, and Settings are always included.

Create it

Click Create project. You land on the project's Overview — the home page for everything you're about to build.

Project limits

How many active projects you can have depends on your plan — from 1 on Free up to unlimited on Enterprise. If you're at the limit, archive an old project or upgrade. See Plans and trials.

You now have a project. Next you'll lay out the shoot itself.
