Finding your way around
The sidebars, the top bar, the role switcher, and how to move between your organizations and your personal space.
CrewGrid's layout is consistent wherever you are: a sidebar on the left for navigation, a top bar across the top, and your work in the middle. This page shows you how to move around and — importantly — how to switch between running productions and being a freelancer.
Two kinds of space
Everything in CrewGrid sits in one of two places:
- An organization — a company or team you belong to, with its projects and crew.
- Your personal space — your own area as a freelancer, separate from any organization.
You're always in one or the other, and you switch between them with the role switcher (below). The sidebar changes to match wherever you are.
The sidebar
In an organization
At the organization level, the sidebar's Organization section holds:
- Dashboard — your organization at a glance
- Projects — all your productions
- Contacts — your directory of crew and team members
- Marketplace — find freelancers and companies
At the bottom, an Organization Settings section holds Settings.

Inside a project
When you open a project, the sidebar switches to a Project section with the project's name and its tools:
- Overview — the project dashboard
- Budget, Timeline, Staffing, Call Sheets, Locations — these appear only for the tools this project uses (see Choosing project tools)
- Documents
A Project Settings section at the bottom holds the project's Settings.
In your personal space
As a freelancer, the sidebar shows your own navigation:
- Overview — your dashboard
- Inbox — your messages
- My Bookings — jobs you've been offered or confirmed
- My Rate Cards — your reusable rate templates (Pro)
- Calendar — your availability (Pro)
Under a Personal Settings heading: My Profile, Notifications, and Subscription.
The top bar
Across the top you'll find:
- A breadcrumb on the left showing where you are (and letting you step back up).
- A Search button (or press ⌘K / Ctrl-K) that opens the command palette — a fast way to jump to any project, page, or action by typing.
- A mode chip on the right showing which space you're in. Click it to open the role switcher.
Switching between organizations and your personal space
Click the mode chip in the top bar to open the role switcher. It groups everywhere you can go:
- Producer — organizations where you run productions.
- Member — organizations where you have view access.
- You · Freelancer — your personal space.
- A theme toggle and Sign out at the bottom.

This is the one control to remember: whenever CrewGrid doesn't look the way you expect, check the mode chip — you may be in a different space than you meant to be.
Where to go next
- Running productions? The project overview.
- Freelancing? Your dashboard.
- Lost on a word? Glossary.
