Choosing project tools (modules)

Pick which tools — Budget, Timeline, Staffing, Call Sheets, Locations — a project uses, and add more later.

Not every production needs every tool. CrewGrid lets each project use just the tools that fit it — a quick job might need only a budget and some crew, while a full shoot uses everything. These tools are called modules.

The five tools

Overview, Documents, and Settings are always available and aren't part of this choice.

Choosing at creation

When you create a project, the Modules picker starts with all five tools ticked. Untick anything this production doesn't need — a simple job might keep only Budget and Staffing. You must keep at least one. You can always add tools back later.

Adding tools later

Open Settings → Modules in the project. Tick the tools you want to add, then click Enable modules. Tools already switched on show an Enabled chip and can't be unticked.

Adding is one-way

You can add a tool to a project at any time, but tools can't be removed once enabled. This is deliberate — once a tool holds real data, taking it away would risk losing that work. So start with what you know you need and add the rest as the production grows.

How the tools connect

The tools are designed to work together — but only when you tell them to. The timeline feeds schedules into bookings and call sheets, and the budget reads the live cost of your bookings. If a project skips the Timeline tool, its bookings simply use dates you set by hand instead of a timeline schedule. The way changes flow between tools is explained in How scheduling works.
